While styling a photo shoot for Christopher Fischer (uber-yummy designer cashmere), I got one of the best (and cheapest) beauty tips I heard in a long time from the company€™s Creative Director, Joni Fischer. Not really sure how the convo came up, something about dry lips, but she broke out with some A+D diaper rash ointment from her purse, claiming it is THE mind-blowing cure for severe skin dehydration.
Baby butt crème? Really? Joni was in Paris and Milan for market week buying handbags and accessories for Christopher Fischer stores, two towns where drinking alcohol is like drinking water. €œEven at the trade show in Paris they serve Martini's at 5:00 and on Sundays at Noon,€� Joni told me. Needless to say, she consumed a lot of alcohol, combined with hard tap water in hotels, cold February weather and miles of walking in the evening visiting her fave boutiques €“ the outcome was not so fabulous: she broke out with dry lips and fingers of abysmal proportions. They were pink like a grapefruit and hurt to even touch. A doctor€™s visit was totally in order upon her return, and the prescription? Simply go to the drugstore and pick up a $3 tube of A+ D diaper rash ointment and apply, apply, apply.She did, and the horrifying chafing disappeared, like in two days! It only makes sense really, if this stuff is supposed to cure a baby€™s bottom of diaper rash, why shouldn€™t it work on us?From that day on, a tube of A+D is always in my purse, not only for my lips, which by the way works phenomenally as a shiny lip gloss, but also for my cuticles. And on the nights when I am vegging out in front of the telly, I break out my moisturizing gloves and booties, slather my extremities in the stuff, and let them roast.
