6 Weeks To Sexy: Extreme Workout Gear Is My New, True Love

My total body transformation has kicked into high gear. I am at the halfway point, and just this morning, I weighed in at 158.6 pounds! Which means I've lost 6 pounds in three weeks! But here's the thing, I've also gained a ton of muscle mass in my shoulders, back, and midsection, so my total weight loss is definitely even more than 6 pounds. And the most important thing - I am as strong and limber as I was in high school when I played soccer, which was a loooooong time ago. All thanks and credit go to Clay and Elizabeth Burwell at High Performance in New York, who took on the daunting challenge of turning my pudge into pugilistic power! But Clay and Elizabeth have some little friends I want you to meet that have also been integral to shaping my superphat physique...

Meet My Three Favorite Workout Thingies!

I had no idea what to expect when I signed on for personal training - none. I went to a Bally's for about a week 10 years ago and was so intimidated by the machines, I only used their Suzanne Somers ab roller, and never returned. But workign out with trainers has introduced me to the wonders of cool workout helpers. Here are my Top Three Crushes so far:

1. I Want To Kiss My Russian Kettlebells

Clay has worked me out with these three times now. Kettlebells were cast-iron Russian weights used tin the 19th century to measure weights at Russian ports. Now, Russian kettlebells are a workout phenomenon. I position myself in a squat and swing them up to chest level, then back down, again and again. And now, voila, I have pecs!

2. I Want to Caress My Bosu

I've used this simple but versatile contraption two different ways. First, I did push-ups on it by grabbing the sides. Its like grabbing the sides of a perfectly round boll, so it wiggles around, working even more muscles per push-up as you try to remain steady. Then, I did one-leg stands on it while I lifted barbells out to my sides. Again, having to balance on one leg on a saucer added a new level of focus to the workout, and worked my entire torso as I struggled to keep it all together up there and not wipe out!

3. I Want to Marry My Rowing Machine

I have run for exercise for years, on-and-off, so my legs and ankles and joints are all a little on the beat up side. But I haven't been able to find any other good way to burn a lot of calories in a short time. Until I met the rowing machine. This thing wears me out faster than running, and at the same time, is building muscles in the upper body AND working out my legs in a low-impact way. Which is why I love it the most and will be buried next to it when I die.
