Label Love: Fashion Meets Architecture With CHROMAT

It's sexy. It's edgy. It's Chromat. Started by two architecture students from University of Virginia, Chromat is an experiment of human form and the unique structures and shapes it can take. Chromat features a strong architectural undertone in all it's collections, but each collection is truly unique and intriguing in it's own right. Using bright colors, somber colors, innovative silhouettes and additional exterior build-ons, student turned designers, Becca McCharen and Emily Kappes, not only show their creativity in merging architecture with fashion, but manage to keep it sexy and chic the whole time. Personal favorite is the S/S 2010 Collection: Cities and Cages. Corset like contraptions in black piping are fitted over body-conscious dresses, then flaring out to a crinoline like silhouette. Dresses range from black and white to soft greys and the occasional pop of red or fuchsia and are feminine and sometimes frilly, up until the bondage-inspired cage add-on. While some of the pieces do scream S&M a little too much for my tastes, the pieces that do it right are so right. It's sexy, it's edgy. It's the S/S 2020 collection from Chromat and definitely worth checking out! Click on the slideshow to see some of my favorite 'Cities and Cages' pieces!

Home Decor Faves: The StairCASE by Danny Kuo

It's no surprise that a dude who lives in a city of 18 million people would appreciate the need to conserve space. Shanghai-based artist Danny Kuo created the StairCASE, a shelving system where the lower shelves double as a pull-out step ladder. This aesthetically savvy storage piece is a bright solution for people with a lot of books. This storage unit has three moving boxes, each of which can easily be pulled out to form a ladder. As a result, you will find reaching items on high shelves are no longer troublesome.

Lacy Looks For Summer!

While many of our favorite lace garments belong in our drawer of un-mentionables, the look of lace in your everyday outfits has a lingerie-like lust effect on the on-lookers. The see-thru floral ringlet design is perfect for a summery look and feel, as the whole idea around lace as a fabric is for it to be light and airy. The best part -- a little flash of lace can go a long way. Lace is just one of those easy to add fashion commodities that can be found in the most creative of places, such as ust between the straps of your racerback tank or as a mini ruffle to your mini-skirt. Going all lace has a vintage appeal: when white, the classic sheer is soft and virtuous, and when black, your look's turned scarlet-letter scandalous. In a season that's known for its harsh heat, smoulder a little more comfortably in the breezy feel of lace. Sift through these slideshow picks for ideas on some lustrous lacy looks!

Hot In The Hive: Alexander McQueen - Genius of a Generation

Just earlier this year in February, the fashion world lost one of it's most eclectic and creative geniuses, Alexander McQueen. McQueen is known for his daring and often avant-garde sense of style. Many of his pieces were beautifully and intricately constructed with an expert eye for pattern and detail, albeit majority were shockingly risque and most definitely reserved for the truly fashionably daring. Undeniably unique, Alexander McQueen designs soon garnered a fan-base of the most fashionable celebrity risk-takers, including Madonna, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, David Bowie and Bjork. Sadly, the light and genius of this one-of-a-kind designer was cut short right before his own show at New York Fashion Week this year, leaving the fashion world in shock and sorrow.
The "Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation" book by Kristin Knox is a vibrant tribute to the late designer. Filled with photographs from his unforgettable runway shows, including pieces from his last collection, as well as quotes, stories and anecdotes from friends and fashion peers. Whether or not Alexander McQueens' brash couture agrees with your personal aesthetics or not, there is no denying the genius behind the creative force that was Alexander Mqueen. After all, he did receive the British Designer of the Year Award four times. The "Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation" book is a must-have for any fashion buff and makes a great gift for all your fashionable friends, and for $29.00 at Urban Outfitters, this colorful tribute is worth every penny.

Where to buy: Urban Outfitters
Price: $29.00
Who Found It: Idabone was the first to add the 'Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation' to the Hive.

Bag Of The Week: Grand Street Disco City Bag

Really, no outfit is complete without the perfect bag. Foley + Corinna has created a bag that is both lust-worthy and practical. This Grand Street Disco City Bag is super sleek! It's perfect for a city gal who doesn't have time to mess around! I love the criss-crossed straps down the front of the bag; it's tastefully done so as to avoid looking tacky and overwhelming. I personally really love the gray leather because it's such a great color for the summer months, but it also comes in a basic black. I love a bag with versatility and if you're not in the mood to sling this baby over your shoulder you can unclip the strap and rock just the handles. No need to worry about losing all your valuables because there's even a magnet on the inside to keep everything right where it belongs. When I look for a bag, I want to invest in something I'll be able to wear for years to come, this Foley + Corinna comes out on top!

Label Love: Sex-Kitten Stilettos From Pour La Victoire

I'm not exactly sure who this 'La Victoire' is, but she is one lucky girl. French shoe label, Pour La Victoire, by shoe designer David Giordano, features a selection of pumps, wedges, boots and other stiletto-ed beauties (and a few flats) that can only be described as burlesque beauty meets daring diva. There new F/W 2010 Collection consists of the sexiest over-the-knee (OTK) and ankle boots, as well spiky stiletto pumps and other amazingly sexy and gorgeous cooler-weather footwear. High quality leathers are used and embellished with seductive fold overs, Victorian-inspired buttons and lace and corset-like lacing and straps and given a contemporary touch with studs and metallic details. Also definitely worth checking out is their bridal collection which is a lot more than your usual white satin pumps affair and less traditional and "here comes the bride", unless of course the bride is Carrie Bradshaw or Dita Von Teese. Smooth satins in beautifully saturated hues, as well as traditional creams and silvers, are made spectacular and one-of-a-kind with cascading ruffles, glittering crystals, and sweet pearls and lace. The overall aesthetic is much more of a sensual boudoir coquette than blushing bride, making the Pour La Victoire Bridal Collection appropriate for any time you wanna really strut your stuff in something beautifully come-hither and unique. So whether you're looking for some luxurious winter footwear, or to add a killer pair of heels to your collection, just click on the slideshow to see some of my favorites, whether you're this mysterious "La Victoire" or not!

Recession Chic: Watercolor Gradients For Pretty Summer Peepers At $20 Or Less!

It's been called 'watercolor' eyes, 'gradient' eyeshadow and a number of other monikers, but there's one thing for sure. Multicolored eye makeup is definitely in. Plus, it's an easy-on-the-wallet way to try a new summer look. The hot days of summer usually also means being able to wear bright colors and while matchy-matchy makeup is a little dated, the new 'watercolor' trend for eyes is perfect. Rich saturated colors and shadows (like a gorgeous teal or vibrant violet) start off strong and and then gently fade in a blended sweep of a differing color. You can choose one color, and fade it into lighter versions of the same hue, or pick contrasting colors to really make an 'eye-catching' look. Gold or yellow is a wonderful addition to any color combination and really adds shine to the look. It doesn't matter which colors or how many you decide to use for this 'watercolor' look, simply match it to your mood. Just remember to blend, blend, blend throughout for a soft and sultry look that is fun and beautiful, not gaudy or overpowering. Try an eyeliner or mascara in a unique tone to add even more color to this beauty trend! Click on the slideshow to see some gorgeously vibrant shades that are perfect for mixing and blending at $20 or less!
