Stylish And Comfy Countryside-Chic Inspiration For Your Home!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Nov 10, 2009 4:28 PM PST
As much as I like the more edgy take on fashion these days, it's all about comfort and relaxation for me when it comes to my home. So while I may don some leather leggings and fingerless gloves, I want to be able to return home and breathe a sigh of relief, curl up and be comfortable. Overstuffed furniture, wicker accents and countryside-inspired prints and florals are reminiscent of a cozy house and home style. So while mom can't be there everyday whipping up her famous chicken noodle soup and green bean casserole, you can add a few things around the house that give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Check out the slideshow for some easy ideas on how to make your living space country chic and comfortable!

Cute Convertible Clutches Are Two (Or More!) Purses In One!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 10, 2009 10:45 AM PST
I'm the kind of girl at the club who has her purse glued under her arm all night long. You know, the one bumping into everyone and knocking over everybody's drinks when I turn around -- not because I can't walk in my heels, but because my handbag is jutting out dangerously from my side. I don't know what it is, but while all my friends trade in their oversized satchels for a nice compact clutch with just their night-out necessities, I just can't jump on the bandwagon. I mean, sure, it's space-saving, but then you actually have to hold it all night long. And who wants to sacrifice a perfectly good cocktail-holding hand for the sake of a smaller purse? That's why I'm all about these convertible clutches. Equipped with either a removable chain strap or fold-over minimizing capabilities (or both), these little multitaskers can serve as totes, mini-shoulder bags, or coin purses in addition to clutches and can transform from one to the other in seconds with just a simple snap of a button or unhinging of a clasp! Take a look at the slideshow for a selection of my favorite multifunctional transforming clutches!

Being environmentally conscious is the cool thing to do, so it's no surprise that the newest "green" idea from Senco Properties is located in the ultra-hip hood of Chicago's Bucktown. Featuring stylish sustainable staples like bamboo floors, a rooftop filled with plants and a wind turbine, EcoLogic Lofts is aptly named: eco-friendly and smart. Seven stories of functional, sleek design with concrete walls and exposed ductwork give the lofts a unique, funky modern feel right off the bustling Kennedy Expressway. The lobby is dotted with green kiosks showing more ways to incorporate earth saving tips into your lifestyle. You know what? They're right -- green is gorgeous!

If you're having a hard time justifying all the inevitably expensive holiday gift-shopping this year in light of our current economic state, how about opting for a present that truly gives back? Famed accessories brand Kate Spade has recently formed a partnership with Women for Women International known as the Hand In Hand program, which employs war survivors from Bosnia, giving them a chance to get their future back on track. The result? A collection of hand-knit winter accessories, including these Colorblock Mittens, that keep you warm during the dreary weather ahead while the proceeds help women abroad rebuild their lives. If that's not incentive to spread some Christmas joy this season despite your dismal paycheck, I don't know what is!

    Price: $95
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Hand In Hand Mittens to the Hive.

WhatsWear Shows You How To Dress the Part: Sexy Sixties Secretary

    image
Ida Hsiang on Nov 10, 2009 5:32 AM PST
Old School is back as we see designers drawing more and more influence from the styles of the yesteryear. Shabby Apple's Manhattan line exudes flirtatious appeal with '60s-esque dresses synonymous with the sexy secretary and demure housewife looks we see on retro shows like Mad Men. The dresses are all about form-fitting bodices paired with fuller skirts, allowing them to be worn around the office and on social occasions. A personal recommendation goes to the Madison Avenue dress, which is made up with a black and white houndstooth material and trench coat detailing. Another particularly notable piece is the Fifth Avenue dress. This piece consists of a pencil skirt dress decorated with a high-waisted giraffe print "skirt" and a pleated neck line. In addition to these impressive looks, the prices reflect a company that desires quality craftsmanship without outstanding costs. The dresses start at $72 and always fall under $100. Times are tough and while saving is important, it does not mean that style has to be sacrificed! Wear these styles to the fullest and pair them with bright red lips and pearls exemplifying the retro look!

The holiday season is officially upon us in case you haven't noticed the festive decorations lining the streets and storefronts. This means that the happiest and coldest time of year is about to be here. It would be great to just curl up under a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa by the fireside and pseudo-hibernate for the entire winter season, but you don't need the stars to tell you that that's out of the question! The stars predict a lot of quality time with friends and family coming up for the week, as well as a few career-related activities that'll keep you out of the house more than in. Don't worry, though, because the stars are giving you a hand in outsmarting the wintry weather! Put on a pair of gloves that instantly add an air of sophistication and enjoy your week of socializing without being hampered by frost-bitten fingers! Click on the slideshow to see which style of gloves the stars have found to keep your hands toasty!

Find Endless Style In An Infinity Scarf This Fall

    image
Anna Yu on Nov 9, 2009 2:25 PM PST
Fall is my favorite season of the year because I can wear cute boots, peacoats, and scarves galore. However, I have to wait while the fickle San Francisco weather decides whether we're going through one last heat wave or if it's finally going to get chilly. In the mean time, I've been window shopping online for some new scarves. I've got long and short scarves, but don't own any infinity scarves. Also known as circle scarves or loop scarves, these scarves are one big knit ring that you can loop around your neck. Hang it over your neck once like a casual necklace or wrap it around twice (or more) to protect you from the cold. I've found infinity scarves ranging from under $15 to $350! On the lower end, American Eagle has a rugby-inspired Sparkly Striped Circular Scarf you can take to a sporting event or on a day out with friends. If you're looking to splurge, I'm loving the super luxurious Infinity Cashmere Scarf by James Perse. Check out my slideshow for more infinity scarves!

YOOX Celebrates "American Glamour" With FIT And An Exclusive ...

Lisanne Silverman on Nov 9, 2009 12:21 PM PST
Vintage Halston, Bill Blass, Rodarte. If your heart rate sped up just a bit upon reading those words, you'll want to check out the vintage sale going on at YOOX right now! It's a part of American Glamour, a YOOX shopping event, and American Beauty: Aesthetics & Innovation, an FIT exhibition that debuted last Friday. The exhibit features about 75 couture masterpieces from 20 designers, while the American Glamour sale will showcase a collection of samples by fifteen designers including the aforementioned Halston and Blass, plus other legendary couturiers and even some contemporary designers (Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte, Ralph Rucci, Isabel Toledo, to name a few). Part of the motivation behind the event is to show that America's contribution to fashion goes far beyond the invention of sportswear and the rise of mass marketing, and also to provide a highly curated collection of one-of-a-kind items to breathe life into an industry where trends are exhausted and uniqueness is often hard to come by. Click here to shop the exclusive collection and learn more about YOOX and FIT.
